About
City Tacos opened its 10,000-square-foot OB Playground in September 2023 in the Ocean Beach community of San Diego. The location is only 3 ½ miles and a 10-minute drive from San Diego International Airport.
The family-friendly space includes a turfed “taco garden” with giant-sized games for kids, like checkers, chess, Connect 4, and Jenga. Other activities include cornhole, dominos, and hopscotch.
The property also features a gated dog park with real grass, a fake fire hydrant, hoops and a tube for pups to jump and run through. Tables line the fence so guests can watch their pets while eating.
The taco garden has picnic table seating, two fire pits with lounge seating, and bar stool seating. Five sail shades provide cover from the sun to a portion of the space, including the dog park. Other seating options include a covered patio and indoor open-air.
OB Playground features Summer Nat Flower Shop, which sells fresh flowers and items for pets, and OB Espresso, which sells coffee from San Diego’s very own Mike Hess Brewing.
The retrofitted 1972 Volkswagen Kombi on site serves as the C.R.I.B. (Collective Retail Incubation Biz). Beginner entrepreneurs, artists, and artisans rent out the space for $20 a day to sell their goods.
There are two paleta carts – one retro version in the taco garden for display only and one inside the City Tacos structure with actual paleta and several flavor options.
OB Playground has ten taps for draft beer, all of which are from local craft breweries. Bottled Mexican beers, as well as wine and seltzers, are also available.
